Alan Cumming Biography
Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor, writer, and presenter recognized for his diverse work in film, television, theater, and literature. Known for roles on stage and screen, Cumming has received accolades including a BAFTA Award, two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, and an Olivier Award. After graduating, Cumming worked extensively in Scottish theater and television before moving to London, where he performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance for the West End production of "Accidental Death of an Anarchist."
Cumming's international breakthrough came with his portrayal of the Emcee in the musical "Cabaret." His performance earned recognition from the Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the Tony Awards. He also won a Tony as a producer of the musical "A Strange Loop." His Broadway credits include "Design for Living" and a solo performance in "Macbeth."
In film, Cumming gained recognition as Boris Grishenko in the James Bond film "GoldenEye." He played Nightcrawler in "X2" and appeared in the "Spy Kids" and "Smurfs" film series. His filmography also includes roles in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" and Julie Taymor's "Titus."
