Jesse Tyler Ferguson stars as Mitchell Pritchett on the Emmy Award-winning ABC comedy "Modern Family" from Executive Producers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.
No stranger to television, Ferguson received rave reviews and was honored by The Hollywood Reporter in 2006 as one of Ten to Watch for his role on the CBS ensemble sitcom "The Class." His additional television credits include "Do Not Disturb" and "Ugly Betty."
Ferguson's film credits include "Untraceable," directed by Gregory Hoblit and starring Diane Lane, and "Griffin & Phoenix" with Amanda Peet and Dermot Mulroney. He made the decision to become an actor when he was 8-years old and soon after joined the Albuquerque Childrens Theater where he remained a member for six years. After graduating high school, he moved to New York to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and began performing in Broadway and off-Broadway productions, the most notable of which were the critically-acclaimed, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," in which he played Leaf Coneybear, and the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park production of "A Midsummer Nights Dream." He recently returned to the Park in the 2010 productions of The Winters Tale and The Merchant of Venice, where he performed alongside Al Pacino, Jesse L. Martin and Lily Rabe.
His passion for dance, experience on Broadway and his charismatic personality made him one of the most popular guest judges on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance."
In September 2012, Ferguson, with his husband Justin Mikita, who is a lawyer, started Tie The Knot, a non-profit charity effort to raise funds to support marriage equality for same-sex couples, using bow ties sold retail. They officially launched it as their engagement announcement in an online video where they explain only seven states at the time had marriage equality.
In October 2013 Ferguson was named by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as a celebrity ambassador for the LGBT community, in part for his Tie The Knot charity. Specifically for the ACLU's "Out for Freedom" campaign to "promoting the adoption of marriage equality across the United States." They noted that Ferguson travelled to New Mexico, his home state, to take part in same sex marriage efforts. The couple’s non-profit made a grant of $10,000 to the ACLU of New Mexico for same sex efforts.
