Donald Van de Mark Biography

Donald Van de Mark is a luxury real estate broker, author, and keynote speaker based in Sonoma, California, with a career encompassing broadcast journalism, entrepreneurship, and high-end property sales. Van de Mark served as a national television news correspondent and anchor with CNBC, CNN, and public broadcasting stations, and was among the journalists who created the first business news shows on television, serving as the first Washington correspondent for CNBC. He began his communications career at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City as a desk assistant at WCBS-TV News before joining Business Times on ESPN.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Van de Mark reported from Washington, D.C., and New York City, interviewing national politicians, business leaders, and cultural figures. He played a role in the launch of both CNBC and CNN's financial channel, CNNfn, serving as correspondent and anchor and helping develop programs including "Entrepreneurs Only," "Washington Unwrapped," "Biz Buzz," and "The Media Show." He also co-anchored CNN's "MoneyWeek." Van de Mark reported on significant financial events, including the near collapse of Long Term Capital Management, which impacted global markets. Prior to his work at CNN, he served as QVC's director of corporate communications, leading messaging during major acquisition attempts. At CNBC, he was nominated for an Ace Award for his five-part series, "China – The Giant Awakens."

Van de Mark later became co-founder and executive vice president of editorial content for MyPrimeTime, a San Francisco-based media startup focused on personal and professional development. There, he wrote and anchored two biographical TV series, "Great Entrepreneurs" and "Great Leaders," which aired on public broadcasting stations and profiled figures such as Andy Grove, Bill Bradley, and Martha Stewart. He then transitioned to luxury real estate in Sonoma and Napa Valleys, where he has established a track record in high-value property sales.

Van de Mark works in Sonoma and Napa Valleys, where he has been consistently ranked in the top 2 percent of Sotheby's International Realty worldwide. His listings have included the three highest-priced sales in Sonoma Valley during one quarter, and he and a colleague sold more than $88 million in property in a single year. He applies market intelligence, negotiation, and communication skills developed as a business and political correspondent to his real estate practice.

Van de Mark is the author of "The Good Among the Great: 19 Traits of the Most Admirable, Creative and Joyous People" (Columbia Island Press). He is a keynote speaker on topics including business, journalism, real estate, and motivation, and serves as an advisory council member for Save the Elephants. Van de Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, where he studied political science, psychology, and economics.
