Wolfgang Puck

Wolfgang Puck is recognized as a leading figure in modern gastronomy and is often credited as the original celebrity chef. Born in Austria, Puck developed an early interest in cooking under the guidance of his mother, a professional chef. He trained in renowned French kitchens, including Maxim's in Paris and L'Oustau de Baumanière in Provence, before relocating to the United States. After gaining recognition as chef at Ma Maison in Los Angeles, Puck opened his first restaurant, Spago. He published his first cookbook, "Modern French Cooking for the American Kitchen," based on recipes that brought acclaim to Ma Maison.

The menu at Spago, featuring dishes such as smoked salmon pizza, played a significant role in defining California cuisine. Puck's approach earned multiple James Beard Awards and international recognition. He is the only chef to have won the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Chef multiple times. Spago received the James Beard Foundation Award for Restaurant of the Year and was awarded two Michelin Stars. He was among the first chefs to introduce high-end cuisine to Las Vegas, contributing to its emergence as a major dining destination. Wolfgang Puck Catering operates in 50 locations worldwide, including sports arenas, museums, and airports. Puck owns 23 fine-dining restaurants globally. Beyond his restaurants, Puck is known for his culinary creations, cookbooks, instructional videos, Wolfgang Puck Cafes, and the Wolfgang Puck Food Company.

As his business expanded, Puck became a familiar presence on American television, appearing regularly on "Good Morning America" and later hosting the Emmy Award-winning series "Wolfgang Puck's Cooking Class" on Food Network. He has received honors such as the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association Gold Plate and recognition by the International Hospitality Institute on the Global 100 in Hospitality. Puck also completed the Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School, having begun his culinary training at 14 without graduating from high school or college.

Puck has been a longstanding caterer for the Governors Ball, the official Academy Awards after-party, establishing a tradition that has made him a fixture of Oscars night. His career includes a world tour of his international restaurants, offering ticketed dining experiences in collaboration with his son Byron Lazaroff-Puck, director of food, beverage, and hospitality for the Wolfgang Puck fine-dining group.
