She is the emcee and a spokesperson for THRiVE!, the annual women’s conference produced by Injoy and broadcast live via satellite to more than 300 churches throughout the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico. American Airlines tapped her to inspire their business travelers through a series of podcasts and broadcasts online. She is a columnist for Heart & Soul Magazine, BlackAmericaWeb.com, and the Chicago Defender – and has also written regular columns for the Dallas Business Journal, Minority Business News, CBN.com and Christian Single. She is former co-host and co-producer of the national daily television program, The Potter’s Touch with T.D. Jakes and served as the on-air life coach for KXAS-TV (NBC5/Dallas) and two, nationally-syndicated morning shows on the ABC Radio Network for two years. She is the “resident” life coach for WPGC-AM in Washington, DC.
An entrepreneur at heart, her first and only corporate position was as marketing director for the largest Dallas-based CPA firm. Two years into her career, she founded The Burton Agency, a marketing and public relations firm, with her former employer as one of her first clients. The agency helped companies shape their image and create messages to positively influence customers and increase sales. She was named one of the nation’s 30 rising stars in public relations by PR Week Magazine in 2000. She sold the business in 2001 to pursue her purpose and passion. It is a passion she fulfills through writing books and columns, speaking and coaching.
She was appointed by Governor Rick Perry (Texas) in 2001 to the Governor’s Commission for Women and served a two-year term. She is a former Miss Black Texas USA, Miss Black USA ‘top 10’ finalist, and a runner-up to Miss Texas. In 1996, she created the annual Texas Trailblazer Award luncheon, which honors trailblazing women and has since raised over $400,000 for one of the nation’s largest domestic violence shelters. At age 21, she earned a master's degree in journalism from Florida A & M University. Her undergraduate degree is from Florida State University. She has over 150 hours of professional coach training through Coach University, the pioneer coach training institution. She is a credentialed member of the International Coach Federation and a member of the National Speakers Association. Ms. Burton and her husband live in the Washington, D.C. area.
