Authors & Corporate Trainers; Known for Addressing Employee Burnout to Prevent Turnover; Known as 'The Good Doctors'
Abbey Research Biography
Team Abbey Research, aka The Good Doctors, is led by Dr. Kristen Donnelly and Dr. Erin Hinson.
The Good Doctors are corporate trainers that focus on employee engagement and retention with approaches and insights that get to the root of discontent, poor morale, and miscommunication, the key factors in employee turnover. They are educators with social science PhDs. Collectively they have over 30 years experience working in the manufacturing, retail, social service, non profit, and education sectors.
They leverage their research, education, training, and experience to help their clients build cultures that no one wants to quit. This looks like interactive trainings, both in-person and virtual, and keynote presentations that contain unique insights and practical applications. Currently their primary training focus is on helping their clients create work cultures that mitigate burnout, and learn how to maximize the potential of multigenerational workforces.
They are the authors of the bestselling, multi-award winning book “The Culture of Burnout” and the forthcoming book, “Leading Through The Culture of Burnout.” They are currently researching their third book, which will examine how technological change across generations has impacted our cultural sense of belonging.
In recent years they have delivered over 120 trainings and speaking engagements, and made over 110 media appearances. They have been featured in Forbes, Business Insider, MarketWatch, Bloomberg, Yahoo! Finance, and The Marquis Who’s Who (2025). They were recognized by Chef’s Digest as one of the 10 Most Influential Companies of the Year (2023), by CIO Bulletin’s as one of the 50 Most Admired Companies to Watch (2023), and by the South East USA Prestige Awards as the Corporate Training Company of the Year for South Carolina (2023/2024 and 2024/2025).
Kristen Donnelly (MSW, M.Div, PhD) is an award-winning four-time TEDx speaker, international educator, and researcher with two decades of experience in helping people understand the beauty in difference, and the power in inclusivity. She is also the COO of Abbey Research’s parent company. Donnelly lives outside of Philadelphia with her husband, where they are surrounded by piles of books and several video game consoles.
Erin Hinson (MA, PhD) is a researcher, educator, author, and tea enthusiast with almost two decades of experience in cultivating curiosity and understanding in herself and others. She believes empathy is a skill, not a superpower, that burnout is a cultural condition and not an individual failing, and that technology has fundamentally shifted our sense of belonging across and between generations. Hinson lives in Pittsburgh with her mother, cat, and international gin collection.

Burnout Prevention Beyond Bubble Baths
Burnout is as American as apple pie, baseball, and the 4th of July. People are not exhausted or burned out because they haven't done enough yoga, set strong enough boundaries, or have bought the wrong candles. They’re burned out because America has programmed us all to be. We can break the programming and design both a sustainable life and a work culture that works to foster balance and allows everyone to thrive.
Culture is made through the decisions and actions of everyone who lives in that culture. So if we all want to be less burned out and more balanced, we can be.
It’s difficult, but not impossible—— and most importantly, it’s doable.
This presentation is designed to be interactive. We'll talk about some basic sociological patterns of American culture
• including the origins of the phrase "I'll sleep when I'm dead"
• and then go through some of the recommended steps necessary to unlearn those patterns and create ones that foster balance and belonging.

From Boomers to Zoomers: Creating Workplaces That Thrive For All Generations
We all know that Gen Z is changing the way people think about work. The truth is, each rising generation dramatically changes the American workplace.
We know it can feel frustrating and exhausting dealing with the problems that arise from multigenerational workplaces. Our training starts with providing key context and information about what generations are and why they are so important to American work culture. The training introduces key traits and differences for each generation, while also explaining how these differences impact the way we work together.
In our interactive training, attendees will learn what makes Gen Z so different and what we can do about it. They will be provided with concrete steps to mitigate generational differences, and build a more inclusive organizational culture, as well as opportunities to reflect on immediate implementation of new knowledge.
