Simon Rimmer Biography

Simon Rimmer, is an English cook and restaurateur, best known for his on-screen partnership with Tim Lovejoy, with whom he co-hosted the BBC Two programme Something for the Weekend from 2006 until 2012. Rimmer and Lovejoy then began co-hosting Channel 4 programme Sunday Brunch and its spin-off Daily Brunch.

Rimmer founded Greens, a vegetarian restaurant in West Didsbury, Manchester in 1990. Two years later, The Guardian described Greens as one of the most exciting new restaurants in the UK.

Rimmer's television career began with Granada Breeze and he has also appeared regularly on programmes including This Morning, Granada Tonight, A Taste for Travel, Lunchtime Live and The Afternoon Show, Gloria’s Open House on Channel 5, Xchange for CBBC and a spot of co-presenting on UKTV's Great Food Live and BBC One's To Buy or Not to Buy. Simon presented This Little Farmer for BBC One and Making a Meal of It, also for BBC Two. He was the mentor on the Channel 5 programme Breaking Into Tesco, in which people competed to get their food products sold by Tesco.

Rimmer's first book, The Accidental Vegetarian, was published in October 2004. His second book, The Rebel Cook, was published in October 2006. His third book Lazy Brunch came out in spring 2008, co-written with Lovejoy and based on a feature in Something from the Weekend. In spring 2009, Mitchell Beazley published his fourth book, The Seasoned Vegetarian.

Rimmer opened his second restaurant, Earle, in Hale in October 2006. It has been named "The top celebrity restaurant to eat at" by the Observer Food Monthly.

Rimmer pitted his cooking talents against other skilled chefs on the first series of Great British Menu in 2006: he lost in the North of England heat to Marcus Wareing. In 2012, Rimmer appeared on the CBBC series 12 Again.

During the 2013 British Sausage Week, Rimmer served as a judge of the regional finals in several regions in the UK, helping to choose the winners and promote the event.

From 4 August 2014, Rimmer began hosting new Channel 4 cookery quiz Win It, Cook It.

In 2014, Lovejoy and Rimmer presented a short-lived spin-off series called Daily Brunch, airing on Monday to Fridays from 10am. The show lasted for eight weeks.

In January 2016, he began presenting Tricks of the Restaurant Trade, a Channel 4 series alongside Kate Quilton and Adam Pearson. A second series also aired in 2016. A third series aired in late 2017, with Sophie Morgan and Pearson.

In 2017, Rimmer began presenting the daytime show Eat the Week with Iceland. He also presented Secrets of Our Favourite Snacks on Channel 4 with Sophie Morgan in 2017.
