Patrick Rothfuss Biography
Patrick Rothfuss is an international best-selling fantasy author, satirist, activist, and teacher. In addition to being a New York Times bestseller, his first novel, The Name of the Wind, won numerous awards and has been translated into 27 foreign languages.
Rothfuss had the good fortune to be born in Wisconsin where long winters and a lack of cable television brought about a love of reading and writing. His mother read to him as a child, and his father taught him to build things. If you are looking for the roots of his storytelling, look there.
After receiving a B.A. in English from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Rothfuss returned to his alma mater to teach. During this time however, Rothfuss worked on The Book, as he and his friends lovingly titled it. He tried to sell it to publishers, but it was rejected by roughly every agent in the known universe. During this process, he disguised a chapter of The Book as a short story and won the Writers of the Future competition in 2002. This put him into contact with all the right people and after deciding to split The Book into three installments, DAW agreed to publish it. In April 2007, The Name of the Wind was published to great acclaim, winning the Quill Award and making the New York Times Bestseller List.
Patrick Rothfuss started a charity fundraiser called Worldbuilders and published a not-for-children children's book called The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle in July of 2010 through Subterranean Press.
The Wise Man's Fear came out in March 2011, making it to #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List.
