Maurice Benard

Maurice Benard is known for his enduring role as mob boss Michael Sonny Corinthos Jr. on the ABC soap opera "General Hospital." Benard joined "General Hospital" as Sonny Corinthos, a character originally intended as a six-month guest arc. His portrayal led to the character becoming central to the show, establishing Sonny as a prominent figure in daytime television and soap opera history.

Prior to his work on "General Hospital," Benard built experience in theater and television. He began his career with modeling jobs in his early 20s before transitioning to acting in theatrical productions in the Bay Area. Benard played Nico Kelly in the ABC daytime soap opera "All My Children" and portrayed Desi Arnaz in the biographical television film "Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter." He also appeared in "Ruby," playing the role of a Cuban exile named Diego.
