Daniel Day-Lewis

Daniel Day-Lewis is an Academy Award–winning actor widely regarded as one of the greatest performers of his generation. Born in London in 1957 to poet Cecil Day-Lewis and actress Jill Balcon, he trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before beginning his career on stage and in British films. His early performances in "My Beautiful Laundrette" and "A Room with a View" quickly established him as a rising star known for his depth and versatility.

Day-Lewis became internationally acclaimed for his dedication to method acting, fully immersing himself in each role. He won his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Christy Brown in "My Left Foot," an Irish writer and painter with cerebral palsy. His transformative performances in films such as "The Last of the Mohicans," "In the Name of the Father," and "Gangs of New York" further solidified his reputation as an actor of extraordinary intensity and craft.

In 2007, Day-Lewis delivered one of his most celebrated performances in "There Will Be Blood," earning his second Academy Award. He later won a historic third Oscar for his portrayal of President Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s "Lincoln," becoming the only male actor to win three Best Actor awards.

After decades of acclaimed work, Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting following his final performance in "Phantom Thread." He returned to acting in 2025 to star in his son's "Anemone."
