Candice DeLong

Candice DeLong is a former FBI criminal profiler, author, and a prominent figure in true crime media. DeLong began her career as a psychiatric nurse, serving as head nurse at Northwestern University Hospital's Institute of Psychiatry in Chicago before being recruited by the FBI. Her interest in patients who had committed crimes such as murder led her to join the FBI as a crime scene analyst, eventually working at Quantico.

During her tenure with the bureau, DeLong was among the first female criminal profilers, trained by the Behavioral Science Unit at Quantico, and served as lead profiler in the San Francisco office. Her FBI work included involvement in high-profile cases such as the Chicago Tylenol murders, the Unabomber investigation that led to Ted Kaczynski's arrest, and a child kidnapping rescue. She also conducted undercover operations, posing in roles such as a gangster's associate and a madam in a call-girl ring. DeLong set and achieved three primary goals in her career: involvement in a national criminal case, apprehending a serial killer, and rescuing a kidnap victim alive.

DeLong is the author of the memoir "Special Agent: My Life on the Front Lines as a Woman in the FBI." The memoir, which details her work on cases including the Tylenol murders and the Unabomber investigation, was adapted into a TV movie and inspired a weekly TV show focused on safety for women and children.

She hosts Investigation Discovery programs "Deadly Women" and "Facing Evil with Candice DeLong," the Wondery podcast "Killer Psyche," and the Discovery+ program "The Deadly Type with Candice DeLong." "Killer Psyche" is a true crime podcast that examines the psychology of murders and criminals, with DeLong drawing on her experience to discuss psychological methods and profiling techniques. The podcast has received recognition in the true crime podcast genre.

DeLong is also a homicide expert, TV news commentator, and documentary host, producer, and contributor. She has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, HLN, FOX News, Meet the Press, Hardball, Dateline, 48 Hours, Today, GMA, Dr. Phil, and Oprah.
