Max Siegel Biography

Max Siegel is a corporate CEO, entertainment executive, attorney, and activist with a career spanning more than three decades in the sports, music, and media industries. Siegel was the first African American to graduate with honors from the University of Notre Dame Law School, marking a significant milestone in legal education and diversity. After graduating, Siegel founded a talent agency representing prominent figures in music and sports, including football player Reggie White and batting champion Tony Gwynn. He has held executive leadership roles such as senior vice president at Sony/BMG and president of Zomba Gospel, Tommy Boy Gospel, and Verity Records, where he led one of the most profitable divisions in the Sony BMG system. Siegel contributed to the development of gospel artists Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and Donnie McClurkin, and was part of the management team overseeing the careers of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Usher.

Siegel’s entrepreneurial efforts extended into motorsports, where he became the highest-ranking African American executive in NASCAR as president of global operations at Dale Earnhardt Inc. As owner of Rev Racing, Siegel led NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program, advancing the recruitment and development of multicultural and female talent in the sport and helping to launch the careers of Bubba Wallace and Nick Sanchez. He has also created literary, television, and film properties, including the BET Networks series "Changing Lanes" and the ESPN documentary "Wendell Scott: A Race Story."

Siegel is the first African American CEO of USA Track & Field (USATF). During his tenure, USATF has achieved financial growth, programmatic evolution, and expanded representation within the Olympic movement, generating over $600 million in revenue and increasing the annual budget to $40 million. Under Siegel’s leadership, USATF achieved its highest Olympic medal count since 1936 and its most medals at a world championships, winning 30 at the IAAF World Championships. Siegel also secured the U.S. bid to host the IAAF World Outdoor Championships and negotiated a major contract with Nike.

USATF has embraced innovation and expanded its global presence under Siegel’s direction. At the Olympic Trials, USATF enhanced fan engagement through collaborations with pop culture figures such as Snoop Dogg. USATF’s youth athletes have excelled at the World Athletics U20 Championships, earning 16 medals, including eight golds, and topping the medal and points tables. A key component of USATF’s preparations for LA28 is the "Journey to Gold" strategic roadmap, which provides athletes with competitive opportunities and resources for international success. Siegel is the author of "Know What Makes Them Tick: How to Successfully Negotiate Almost Any Situation" and has appeared on Oprah, NPR's Tavis Smiley, ABC's "Good Morning America," ESPN, and CNBC. His work has been featured in Wall Street Journal, USA Today, the New York Times, Ebony's Power 100, and Billboard Magazine.
