Dr. Adjoa B. Asamoah Biography

Dr. Adjoa B. Asamoah is a policy architect, social impact strategist, and political advisor recognized for her leadership in the CROWN Act movement, which seeks to end racial hair discrimination in the United States. The CROWN Act, which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair, has led to changes in laws across 24 states, addressing race-based hair discrimination. Asamoah developed national legislative and coalition-building strategies for the CROWN Act and completed her doctoral dissertation on the subject, further establishing her expertise in racial equity and public policy.

Asamoah was the first person appointed as senior advisor for racial equity to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In this role, she advised on public policy and its impact on structural inequity. She has also crafted legislation to address historic injustices and played a key role in establishing the nation's first Office of African American Affairs.

With experience as the Biden-Harris Campaign's national advisor for Black engagement and as Black engagement director for the 59th Presidential Inaugural Committee, Asamoah has collaborated with organizations such as the Democratic National Committee and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute. She has served as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies and has worked with local, state, and federal governments for more than 25 years. As a trained behavior specialist, she provides strategic counsel to CEOs, heads of state, ambassadors, secretaries, and members of Congress across various industries.

Asamoah has appeared as a guest host on BET and Sirius XM. She has been recognized by The Root, Marie Claire Magazine, and EBONY Magazine for her work in social justice. She has received honors including Advocate of the Year from Women in Government Relations, International Citizen of the Year from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and the Catalyst for Change award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Asamoah is known for her expertise in racial equity, public policy, systems change, and social justice advocacy.
