Laura Modi & Sarah Hardy Biography

Laura Modi and Sarah Hardy are the co-founders of Bobbie, the first mom-founded and led infant formula company in the United States. Bobbie was established by Modi, an Irish-American and former executive at Airbnb, after she encountered challenges finding suitable baby formula for her first child. Motivated by the need for an organic infant formula without palm oil and corn syrup, Modi leveraged her leadership experience from Airbnb and Google to launch the company. She partnered with Sarah Hardy, her colleague from Airbnb and a mother of two, who had personal experience importing European formula for her own children.

Modi and Hardy worked with scientists and pediatric nutritionists to develop a European-style infant formula for the U.S. market. Bobbie became the first infant formula certified organic under both USDA and European Union standards. The company focuses on producing formula with high-quality ingredients, excluding fillers, corn syrup, and palm oil. During its first year, Bobbie voluntarily recalled its product due to labeling errors identified by the Food and Drug Administration, an event Modi described as a significant learning experience. Despite this, Bobbie achieved rapid growth, becoming the fastest-growing infant formula company in the U.S. since the 1980s and surpassing initial revenue expectations.

Bobbie expanded its operations by acquiring Nature's One, a pediatric nutrition company, following a $70 million Series C funding round. This acquisition provided Bobbie with end-to-end control over its manufacturing and significantly increased its operational capacity. The company has raised a total of $142 million in venture funding, reached $100 million in revenue, and grown to over 100 employees. Bobbie has been recognized by Fast Company on its Annual List of the World's Most Innovative Companies for multiple years.

In addition to product innovation, Modi and Hardy have focused on workplace culture and public policy in the infant nutrition industry. Bobbie has published its leave policy and launched a grant program supporting parents, highlighting the lack of federal paid parental leave. During the national formula shortage, Modi collaborated with lawmakers to introduce the Infant Formula Made in America Act and established Bobbie for Change, the company's advocacy initiative. Through these efforts, Bobbie has donated more than 100,000 cans of formula to families in need, including support for breast cancer survivors, disaster response, and families affected by maternal health challenges.

Bobbie is recognized as the fastest-growing infant formula company to enter the U.S. market since the 1980s and is the first and only female-founded and mom-led baby formula company in the country. Modi has been named to Time's Women of the Year and is a CNBC Changemaker, recognized for her leadership in infant nutrition and advocacy.
