Claudiu Popa Biography

Claudiu Popa is a Canadian authority on cybersecurity, privacy, and digital trust. A certified cybersecurity expert, public speaker, published author, and educator, Popa has established a career focused on security, privacy, data protection, compliance, and governance. With more than 30 years of experience in information technology security, auditing, international standards, and board-level risk advisory, Popa works to make complex cyber risks understandable and actionable for diverse audiences.

Popa is the founder of the Informatica Group of Companies, which includes Datarisk Canada, OTSEC Industrial Cybersecurity, and Managed Privacy Canada. As an information security and privacy professional, he collaborates with board-level executives to implement enterprise risk strategies, define and apply industry standards, and build security and privacy awareness to protect information as a critical asset in the global economy. He has lectured at academic institutions such as the University of Toronto and developed Canada's first course on fintech cybersecurity, as well as the country's first methodology for information security assessment in healthcare. Popa also serves as a university adjunct professor and college lecturer, working with standards bodies, educational institutions, and task forces on international standards including ISO, PCI, and SOX.

Popa is the author of several books that have contributed to the national conversation on cybersecurity, including "The Canadian Privacy & Data Security Toolkit for Small & Mid-Size Enterprises" and "Managing Personal Information: Insights on Corporate Risk & Opportunity for Privacy-Savvy Leaders." He also wrote "The Canadian Cyberfraud Handbook," published by Carswell/Thomson Reuters, a professional reference guide on deceptive practices.
