Arthur Garrison Biography

Arthur Garrison is a published criminal justice scholar on issues of race, crime, criminal justice history and Supreme Court jurisprudence.

He is a full professor of criminal justice and Kutztown University and his writings have been published in various academic journals, including the Georgetown Journal of Law & Public Policy, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, the Georgetown Journal of Law & Public Policy, and the Journal of Supreme Court History, ranging from program evaluation to the role of Christianity in American legal history. 

He is the author of "Chained to the System: The History and Politics of Black Incarceration in America" (2020) and "Supreme Court Jurisprudence in Times of National Crisis, Terrorism, and War: A Historical Perspective" (2011).

Dr. Garrison is a person of faith and has published on the validity of scripture and Christian living and is author of the new book "Lord, Help My Unbelief: Stories of How God Answers Prayers When We Are Afraid to Have Faith" (2022).

Before his academic career, he was a program director for criminal justice policy and conducted program evaluations for state criminal justice programs in Delaware. Dr. Garrison has spoken at both regional and national criminal justice conferences and has provided consultations on issues of race and crime to various government and non-profit organizations. In addition to his academic work, he frequently writes for mainstream audiences on contemporary political and social issues in opinion columns.
