Howie Dorough Biography
Howie Dorough, known professionally as Howie D, is a singer, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur recognized as a member of the Backstreet Boys, a globally successful pop group with sales exceeding 130 million records. Dorough began his career in entertainment at a young age, participating in dance, singing, and acting lessons, performing in school productions, and singing in choir. He appeared in films such as "Parenthood" and "Cop and a Half" prior to his music career.
Dorough joined the Backstreet Boys after auditioning for the group, which was formed by Lou Pearlman and included AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, and Kevin Richardson. The group initially performed at high schools and shopping malls before signing with Jive Records and gaining popularity in Europe, particularly in Germany. As a member of the Backstreet Boys, Dorough contributed to hits including "I Want It That Way," "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," and "Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)." The group released the GRAMMY-nominated album "DNA" on RCA Records, which debuted at No. 1 and featured the Top 10 single "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." The Backstreet Boys have also performed at Sphere in Las Vegas with their residency "Into the Millennium."
In addition to his work with the group, Dorough has pursued a solo career in pop music. His solo albums include "Back to Me" and "Which One Am I," the latter inspired by his childhood. He starred in the musical "Howie D: Back in the Day" at The Rose Theater in Omaha, Nebraska. Dorough's film and television credits include an appearance in the comedy "This Is the End," as well as participation in "Dirty Dancing" and "Name That Tune" on Fox.
Dorough is involved in business ventures, co-founding Sweet D, Inc., a real estate development and consulting company, with his brother John. The company has developed condominiums, hotels, and waterfront properties. He also opened Coa Lounge and The Surf, a five-story oceanfront condominium complex in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Dorough established the Dorough Lupus Foundation in memory of his sister Caroline to support lupus research, organize charity events, and provide financial assistance to those affected by the disease. Throughout his career, Dorough has maintained a presence in the music industry, real estate development, and philanthropy.
