Gary Ginsberg Biography
Gary Ginsberg is a lawyer, political operative, and corporate adviser with more than three decades of experience at the intersection of media, politics, and law. After leaving Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Ginsberg joined the Clinton presidential campaign and later served in the Clinton Administration in the Office of the White House Counsel and at the U.S. Department of Justice. This early exposure to American political life shaped a career focused on media strategy, legal counsel, and corporate communications.
Ginsberg became senior editor and legal counsel of "George," the magazine founded by John F. Kennedy Jr., where he worked at the convergence of celebrity, politics, and journalism. He spent 11 years at News Corporation as executive vice president of global marketing and corporate affairs and served on the executive management committee. Ginsberg played a central role in News Corporation's acquisition of Dow Jones, publisher of The Wall Street Journal, and was involved in high-level communications and strategic initiatives. He also served as a senior adviser to Time Warner's CEO and met with government officials regarding media industry concerns.
At Time Warner, Ginsberg was executive vice president, leading marketing, communications, and philanthropic efforts. He taught entrepreneurship in incumbent media as an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School. Following the sale of Time Warner to AT&T, Ginsberg joined SoftBank as senior vice president and global chief communications officer. He is a founding partner of 25Madison, a New York City venture studio and investor in early-stage start-ups.
Ginsberg is the author of the New York Times bestseller "First Friends: The Powerful, Unsung (And Unelected) People Who Shaped Our Presidents." His work explores the relationships that have influenced American history. He has published opinion pieces in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and CNN.com, and has appeared as a political contributor on MSNBC. Ginsberg serves as a director of Townsquare Media and Schrödinger, and is chairman of New Visions for Public Schools. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
