A. Michael Froomkin Biography

Professor A. Michael Froomkin, the Laurie Silvers and Mitchell Rubenstein Distinguished Professor of Law, received an M.Phil. degree from Cambridge University in 1984, and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1987.

He clerked for Judge Stephen F. Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for John F. Grady, chief judge of the Northern District of Illinois. Professor Froomkin joined the University of Miami faculty after working in the London office of the Washington, D.C., firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering.

Professor Froomkin is the founder and editor-in-chief of JOTWELL: The Journal of Things We Like (Lots), an online law journal that publishes reviews of the best new scholarship relating to the law. He is also the founder of the We Robot conference on legal and policy issues relating to robotics.

He is an Affiliated Fellow of the Yale Information Society Project (Yale ISP), and on the Advisory Boards of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and the Future of Privacy Forum.

Professor Froomkin currently teaches Administrative Law, Torts, and short courses in Robot Law and Privacy. He has also taught Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure I, International Law, Internet Law, Jurisprudence, and Trademark, and seminars in Internet Governance, Law & Games, Regulation of Digital Identity, and Electronic Commerce.
