Kenji Kuramitsu Biography

Kenji Kuramitsu is a hospital chaplain, an adjunct professor of ministry at McCormick Theological Seminary, a community-care chaplain for the Barack Obama Foundation, a writer and liturgist.

Kuramitsu, provides spiritual and mental health care across clinical, retreat, and movement settings, drawing from experiences in psychotherapy with LGBTQ populations and antiracism organizing and training. Kuramitsu’s theological interests emerge from Japanese American mass incarceration histories. His writing has been featured in Sojourners, Slant’d, Inheritance, and Asian American Writers’ Workshop. He is also the author of “A Booklet of Uncommon Prayer: Collects for the #BlackLivesMatter Movement and Beyond.”

Kuramitsu received his bachelor's in social work from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and his Master of Social Work from the University of Chicago.
