Mark Collie Biography

Mark Collie is an American artist recognized for his work as a country music singer, songwriter, actor, record producer, and humanitarian. Collie's performing and recording career has drawn comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash, noted for his blend of rockabilly energy, intensity, and songwriting. He began his career with MCA Records, with Tony Brown, then-president of the label, assisting him in securing his contract. Collie's debut album, "Hardin County Line," was released shortly after signing.

Collie's discography includes five major-label albums—four for MCA Nashville and one for Giant Records. Sixteen of his singles have charted on Hot Country Songs, including the top 10 hits "Even the Man in the Moon Is Cryin'" and "Born to Love You." As a songwriter, Collie's work has been recorded by artists such as Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Billy Ray Cyrus, Aaron Tippin, and George Jones. He has received the BMI Millionaire Award for "Hard Lovin' Woman," a BMI Award for "Born to Love You," and an ASCAP Pop Music Award for "Even the Man in the Moon Is Crying." Collie is an inductee of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Country Music Walk of Fame. He has produced or co-produced albums for Brandt Vogel, JT Hodges, Kyle Sherman, and the Horn Family, and served as co-executive producer and co-music supervisor for the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for "The Ice Road."

In addition to his music career, Collie has appeared on screen in roles such as Sheriff Walt Joeberg in Taylor Sheridan's "Landman" on Paramount+, as well as in "The Punisher," "Fire Down Below," "Walker, Texas Ranger," and ABC's "Nashville." He played Frankie Gray, a partner in Deacon Claiborne's bar, The Beverly, on "Nashville." His live album, "Alive at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary," reached No. 11 on the EuroAmericana Charts and maintained a three-month run in the top rankings.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a teenager, Collie has used his platform to support diabetes research and advocacy. He established a foundation to lead fundraising efforts and initiated the annual Mark Collie Celebrity Race for a Cure, which has raised more than $2 million for diabetes research. His efforts led to the establishment of the Mark Collie Chair in Diabetes Research at Vanderbilt University, and the Mark Collie Foundation continues to support related initiatives. Collie was named Tennessean of the Year by the State of Tennessee in recognition of his philanthropic work.

Collie has also dedicated over 20 years to prison rehabilitation through music, inspiring participants through his "My Song for Life" program. As a recipient of the American Spirit Award, he supports military personnel and has performed for service members worldwide. Collie has contributed to numerous benefit events for causes including The Nashville Food Bank, The Blue Note Fund, Fallen Police, and victims of domestic violence. His career in country music, songwriting, film, and philanthropy demonstrates a commitment to both artistic and humanitarian pursuits.
