Jim Davidson Biography

Jim Davidson is a resilience expert, expedition leader, and bestselling author known for his survival experiences on some of the world's most challenging mountains. With more than four decades of high-altitude climbing experience, including a summit of Mount Everest, Davidson has developed a career focused on translating lessons from mountaineering into practical strategies for leaders and teams. Prior to his work as a keynote speaker, Davidson spent 20 years as an environmental geologist, a scientific background that informs his evidence-based approach to resilience and decision-making under pressure.

Davidson's first major survival test occurred on Mount Rainier, where he fell through an ice bridge on the mountain's northeast flank, plunging 80 feet into a crevasse inside the Emmons Glacier and pulling his climbing partner with him. The fall resulted in the death of his partner, Mike Price, leaving Davidson to climb out alone. This experience became the foundation of his co-authored memoir, "The Ledge," which was recognized as a New York Times bestseller, received the National Outdoor Book Award in Outdoor Literature, and was a finalist at the Banff Mountain Book Competition in Canada. "The Ledge" was co-authored with Kevin Vaughan and selected as one of the best books of the year by Amazon.

Years later, Davidson faced another mountain disaster while climbing Mount Everest during a major earthquake that triggered avalanches and destroyed his team's escape route, trapping them at nearly 20,000 feet. Davidson and his team survived the earthquakes and avalanches, spending two days stranded before being rescued by helicopter. He later reached the summit of Mount Everest. This story of perseverance is the basis for his second book, "The Next Everest: Surviving the Mountain's Deadliest Day and Finding the Resilience to Climb Again," published by St. Martin's Press.

Davidson's survival stories have been featured in documentaries for National Geographic, Smithsonian Channel, Netflix, and Discovery's show "I Shouldn't Be Alive." He has also appeared on NPR, CBS, CNN, and numerous other media outlets. Davidson has climbed high peaks on five continents and participated in multiple rescues of sick and injured climbers. He has twice been recognized by the US National Park Service for volunteer rescue efforts and is a member of The Explorers Club and the American Alpine Club.
