Bashir Salahuddin Biography
Bashir Salahuddin is an American actor, writer, and comedian. He is the co-creator of Comedy Central's "South Side.”
Salahuddin was born and raised on the south side of Chicago as one of eight kids. He attended Harvard University, graduating in 1988 as a pre-medical student. During his time at Harvard, he met Diallo Riddle, who later became his writing partner.
After moving to Los Angeles, Salahuddin and Riddle were hired by David Alan Grier as a writing team on his show “Chocolate News” in 2008 after seeing the duo’s web videos. Jimmy Fallon then asked them to join the writing staff of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” They moved to New York and stayed on the show for four years.
Together with Riddle, Salahuddin created “South Side,” which premiered on Comedy Central on 24 July 2019. The show follows two recent community college graduates trying to become entrepreneurs in Chicago's South Side.
As an actor, Salahuddin has appeared on “Superstore,” “Snatched,” “Arrested Development,” “Single Parents,” “Looking” and “The Mindy Project.” He was cast as a recurring character on the Netflix show “GLOW,” which premiered in 2017. In 2018, it was announced that Salahuddin was cast in Tom Cruise's 2020 action drama “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Salahuddin is married to actress Chandra Russell with one daughter.
