Stacy Dymalski Biography
Stacy Dymalski is a comedian, author, filmmaker, and award-winning speaker with a career spanning stand-up comedy, screenwriting, and publishing. Dymalski began her professional storytelling career as a stand-up comic at age 19 in San Francisco. After earning a degree in applied mathematics from UC Berkeley, she worked as an aerospace engineer, technical trainer, and sales support engineer for companies including McDonnell Douglas, Computer Associates, Arthur Andersen, IBM, and Adobe. During the day, she developed her corporate speaking skills, while at night she performed at venues such as The Comedy Store, The Improv, and The Ice House. She later completed the UCLA post-graduate screenwriting certificate program, focusing on story structure.
Dymalski is known as the author of the humor book "Confessions of a Band Geek Mom," which explores her experiences balancing a comedy career with raising two musically inclined sons. She also wrote "The Memoir Midwife: Nine Steps to Self-Publish Your Book," a guide to self-publishing that is used as a textbook in college courses on independent publishing. Dymalski teaches story development and self-publishing at Pasadena City College and has taught at Glendale Community College and the University of Utah. Her humor title, "Do We Have to Buy Gifts For Everybody?" reached the top of Amazon’s new releases in its category.
In film, Dymalski has served as writer, director, and producer on several award-winning projects, including the feature "Jupiter Landing" (co-written with Zack Van Eyck), "Hold Please" (writer/producer), which was nominated for a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and "The Write Stuff," an official entry in Academy Award qualifying festivals. Dymalski and Van Eyck have written over a dozen screenplays and have received more than 25 screenwriting contest awards.
As a public speaker, Dymalski has won over 10 major Toastmasters speaking competitions, advancing to the semi-finals of the Toastmasters International Speech Contest. She delivered a TED Talk titled "Prison: A Startling Path to Creativity," detailing her mentorship of author David C. Taylor in writing "Jacumba Connection" while he was incarcerated. Dymalski expanded her TED Talk into the one-woman show "The Other Side of the Razor Ribbon," which won a Producer's Encore Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. She premiered her one-hour comedy special "A Bit Much" at Whitefire Theatre's Solofest, also earning a Producer's Encore Award, and recorded her stand-up special "Unfamous in Hollywood" at the Santa Monica Playhouse.
Dymalski is an active member of the Writers Guild of America, serving as vice-chair of the Career Longevity Committee, which addresses ageism in Hollywood and the media. She is also involved with the Committee of Women Writers, the Alliance of Women Directors, and the Female Playwrights Initiative. Known as The Memoir Midwife, Dymalski assists individuals from film executives to retirees in developing and sharing their stories through books and films, focusing on creativity, storytelling, and authentic narrative.

Ageism in the Media: Busting the Myth that Storytellers Age Out
In 2026 those born in the first year of the Baby Boomer generation turn 80 years old, and those born the last year turn 62. Which means the most populous generation will officially be senior citizens. Add to that, almost half the Gen X generation will be 50 or older by then as well.
Yet, when we go to the movies, turn on TV, or scroll through social media we see a parade of young people, particularly young women, in stories that don’t represent or relate to the experiences of a large chunk of the population. Although Hollywood has taken a few steps toward releasing stories that focus on the lives of older people Hacks, Grace and Frankie, The Kominsky Method, Last Tango in Halifax, and Only Murders in the Building, are a just few), these efforts are mere drops in the ocean, when you consider the tens of thousands of hours of programming that need to be filled, versus the demographics of the people watching content.
Producer, screenwriter, and comedian Stacy Dymalski takes a deep dive into the Hollywood storytelling machine to reveal why studios are slow to produce stories that cater to people over 50, and what we can do about it.
Peppered with her signature humor, Stacy addresses the following topics:
- The theories behind Hollywood’s deep-seeded problem with aging
- The aging double-standard in the media between men and women
- Who should be telling our stories?
- What older writers can do to get their stories told and distributed.
As the Vice-Chair of the Career Longevity Committee of the Writers Guild of America (WGA—the union for professional screenwriters), Stacy works with her fellow CLC members and the committee Chair to encourage studios, content distributors, and producers to hire older writers for their wisdom, knowledge, and life experience (which naturally adds layered texture to stories based in authenticity and firsthand truth).
