Aaron Lazar Biography

Aaron Lazar has built a career — and a life — defined by making the impossible possible. An acclaimed Broadway, television, and film actor with more than two decades of starring roles on stage and screen, Lazar is also a Grammy-nominated singer and a rising thought leader whose work now bridges entertainment, resilience, science, and spirituality. With the launch of his new podcast Impossible Dreams, Lazar is bringing his message of hope, creativity, and transformation to a global audience.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Lazar earned his BA from Duke University and his MFA from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, quickly becoming one of Broadway’s most recognizable voices. He starred in 11 productions including "Les Misérables," "The Light in the Piazza," "A Little Night Music," and "The Phantom of the Opera." His credits also extend to television, where he was a series regular on FOX’s "Filthy Rich," had arcs on "The Strain" (FX) and "Quantico" (ABC), and is currently recurring as the Governor of California on Amazon’s "The Countdown" opposite Eric Dane. On the big screen, Lazar appeared in the SAG Award–winning ensemble cast of "Everything Everywhere All at Once," as well as "J. Edgar" directed by Clint Eastwood, "The Wolf of Wall Street" directed by Martin Scorsese, and "This Is Where I Leave You" directed by Shawn Levy.

In 2021, Lazar’s life was upended when he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Instead of retreating, he chose to turn an impossible circumstance into an opportunity for extraordinary transformation. With courage, candor, and vision, he began sharing his journey of healing and awakening with audiences across the country, becoming a sought-after keynote speaker for companies, schools, and nonprofits. His core message — “Nothing is impossible. Impossible circumstances can be divine opportunities for change” — is centered around the iconic song "The Impossible Dream," and resonates deeply in a time when resilience and meaning are at a premium.

Lazar has since expanded the Impossible Dream platform into a multifaceted movement. In 2024, he released his debut album The Impossible Dream, featuring collaborations with more than 50 Broadway luminaries including Sting, Kristin Chenoweth, Josh Groban, and Leslie Odom Jr. The record was nominated for a Grammy, cementing Lazar’s reputation as a performer with extraordinary range and reach. His Substack newsletter and forthcoming book share insights on consciousness, healing, and human potential, drawing from his study of more than 100 works on neuroscience, spirituality, and transformation. He is also collaborating with data scientists and the ALS community on the Impossible Dream Machine, an ambitious AI-driven research platform designed to accelerate breakthroughs in neurodegenerative disease.

The centerpiece of this next chapter is Lazar’s new video podcast Impossible Dreams, premiering October 7. Each episode features conversations with cultural icons, athletes, scientists, and everyday heroes about turning adversity into advantage, inspiring audiences to “Live Your Impossible Dreams.” Guests include Mark Cuban, Gabrielle Reece, and Ben Stiller, blending star power with soul-level authenticity.
