George Bloom Biography
George Bloom has a passion for art and science. He is Executive Producer at ViacomCBS, the Visual Effects department responsible for work on hit programs such as: Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, Apple’s “Roar”, “Amazon’s: “Man in the High Castle”, “Transparent”, CBS’s: “Hawaii 5-0” and NBC’s: “This is US.” He leads business development and assisted with the implementation of a proprietary virtual production platform called “Parallax.” He was nominated for an Emmy Award for Netflix’s “Stranger Things” Virtual Reality experience. In 2016, the HTC corporation in China, maker of the VR-VIVE headset selected Bloom as one of 33 recipients, out of 1200+ applicants, to be funded by their VIVE-X Accelerator program for his education idea in virtual reality.
His TEDx talk on “How the Metaverse will change Filmmaking” was an insightful vision of the future. Bloom grew up in a house filled with laughter as his father wrote comedy shows: "All in The Family," "Welcome Back Kotter," "Chico and the Man" and "Jonathan Winters." His father taught him one guiding principal: “It’s not what you know, it’s how you use your imagination.”
Bloom previously served as Vice President of creative content at Walt Disney Pictures and VP of Special Ops at 20th Century Fox Film Studios. He built strategic marketing plans for all media platforms and produced original animation for the movies: Ratatouille, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, UP, Tangled, Ice Age 2, Alice in Wonderland, Cars 2, Tron, X-Men 3 and Reel Steel. In 2005 Bloom sold an original sci-fi thriller screenplay titled “The Savior” to Miramax Films.
Prior to executive work he spent 14 years as a director of music videos, commercials, movie trailers and episodic television. His first big break was in the mid 80’s at the advent of MTV as creative director in the newly formed video division at Capitol Records. His first college summer job was an imaging technician at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. If not busy with work and family, he spends his time kiteboarding, stock investing and writing.
Bloom attended Pepperdine University, Brooks Institute of Photography, and the University of Southern California. He is a member of the Visual Effects Society, Writers Guild of America, and Producers Guild of America.
