Steve Huffman Biography
Steve Huffman is an American web developer and co-founder of the website reddit. More recently, he co-founded the airfare search site, Hipmunk.
In 2005, Steve graduated from the University of Virginia with a computer science degree. After graduating, he teamed up with classmate, Alexis Ohanian, to start reddit which was initially funded by Y Combinator. Reddit was later acquired by Conde Nast in 2006.
In 2010, Huffman teamed up with Adam Goldstein to create the travel site, Hipmunk, with funding also from Y Combinator. In 2011, Steve was named to Inc. magazine's 30 under 30 list. Steve is also the instructor for "CS253: Web Application Engineering," an e-learning course begun in April 2012 by online education provider, Udacity. He commonly appears at talks, giving advice to startup companies.
Beginning in 2017, Huffman led the redesign of Reddit's website with its first major visual update in a decade. Huffman said the site had looked like a "dystopian Craigslist" whose outdated look deterred new users. Development of the new site took more than a year, and the redesign launched in April 2018.
