Kendrick Lamar Biography

Kendrick Lamar, a prominent figure in the music industry, began his career under the stage name K.Dot, signing with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2005. His second mixtape, "Training Day", was released in 2007, followed by a collaborative mixtape with Jay Rock, "No Sleep 'til NYC", the same year. In 2010, Lamar's mixtape "Overly Dedicated" peaked at number 72 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. His debut album "Section.80" marked his first appearance on the Billboard 200 chart in 2011. Lamar's second album "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City" debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 in 2012 and became the first hip-hop studio album to spend over ten consecutive years on the chart.

Lamar's influence in the music industry extends beyond his solo work. He contributed to the soundtrack of the 2018 film "Black Panther," earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for "All the Stars". Additionally, Lamar co-founded the creative company PGLang and ventured into film with his longtime creative partner, Dave Free. He achieved significant success with his 2025 Grand National Tour with SZA, which is the highest-grossing co-headlining tour in history. His accolades include 27 Grammy Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Brit Award, 5 American Music Awards, 7 Billboard Music Awards, 11 MTV Video Music Awards, and a record 37 BET Hip Hop Awards. He was listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time in 2016.

His work continues to gain recognition; three of his albums were included in Rolling Stone's 2020 revision of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". In 2018, Lamar was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his album "Damn", becoming the first musician outside of the classical and jazz genres to receive the award. His song "Not Like Us" won five Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The song "Luther" also won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became his longest-charting number-one song in the US, at 13 weeks. Lamar's commitment to his craft becomes even more apparent as he continues to produce music, with his latest album "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers" becoming the first hip-hop album of the year to reach one billion streams on Spotify in 2022.

As an advocate for racial equality and mental health awareness, Lamar uses his platform to address societal issues. His prowess as a public speaker is evident in his ability to discuss these topics eloquently and passionately, whether it's through his music or in interviews. His first-grade teacher encouraged him to become a writer after hearing him correctly use the word "audacity," a testament to his early talent for communication. Since then, Lamar has proven time and time again that he has the audacity to challenge the status quo, inspire his listeners, and use his words to make a real impact in the world.
