LEONARD WEATHER JR., R.Ph., M.D.
Dr. Weather is a gynecologist, specializing in infertility, fibroids, pelvic pain and endometriosis. He is married to Cynthia Montgomery, M.D. who is also an OB/Gyn. In addition Dr. Weather is a health educator, ordained minister, artist and photographer. He is the publisher of the Dr Weather Report, a monthly healthcare eNewsletter. He also writes a biweekly health educational column for Trice Edney Wire News. In addition he has authored three inspirational poetry books and an infertility handbook. Dr. Weather is an active gynecological clinical trials researcher and has presented over 130 peer reviewed presentations and papers on laser surgery; the outpatient treatment of infertility, endometriosis, pelvic pain and fibroids. He invented the surgical procedure Optical Dissection Pelviscopy, to assist in the prevention of organ injury during laparoscopy.
Dr. Weather is a graduate of Howard University’s College of Pharmacy, received his Doctor of Medicine degree, from Rush Medical College and trained in gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital. He is a past Adjunct Clinical Professor at Xavier University College of Pharmacy, Past President of the National Medical Association’s (NMA), affiliates New Orleans Medical Association, and Louisiana Medical Association. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Past Grand President of Chi Delta Mu Medical Fraternity, and Past Treasurer of Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics (BCHLE). Dr. Weather is a member of numerous State of Louisiana Governor appointed Commissions, Past Chair of Region V, NMA, Inc., and member of the National Medical Association’s Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. He was the Principal Investigator for the National Medical Association’s Katrina Disaster Practice Restoration Grant. In addition he is the President of Northern Louisiana Medical Association and the New Orleans Health Alliance (NOHA), the latter an organization founded in 1999, which consist of Black Health Professionals, Black Nurses, Inc., New Orleans Medical Association, New Orleans Dental Association, Podiatric Association, New Orleans Optometrists, Pharmacists and Physical Therapists, along with Chi Delta Mu Medical Fraternity. He is also a Member of the Board of Scientific Advisors to the Endometriosis Association, Past Chair of Health Policy for the National Medical Association Board of Trustees, Member of the Cobb Institute, the Board of Directors of the Catholic Health Initiative and a member of the Louisiana Health Care Commission Advisory Board.
In September 2009, Dr. Weather was appointed Co-Chair along with the American Medical Association’s President of the Commission to End Health Care Disparities. He became a member of the American Medical Association’s Minority Affairs Consortium Governing Council in June 2010. Dr. Leonard Weather Jr., R.Ph., M.D. was installed as the 111th President of the National Medical Association August 3, 2010 in Orlando, FL. As of August 2011 he serves on the NMA Board of Trustees and the immediate past president of the NMA.
