Greg Brockman

Greg Brockman is co-founder and president of OpenAI, a research organization recognized for its advancements in artificial intelligence technologies. Brockman previously served as founding engineer and chief technology officer at Stripe, where he contributed to the development of scalable online payment systems and helped expand the company from four employees to approximately 250. His work has focused on translating technical concepts into operational systems across online payments, AI research, coding agents, and large-scale computing infrastructure.

Brockman earned a silver medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad and was the first finalist from North Dakota to participate in the Intel Science Talent Search since 1973. He attended Harvard and MIT before joining Stripe in 2010, becoming chief technology officer three years later. Motivated by an interest in machine learning and AI safety, Brockman left Stripe to co-found OpenAI with Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Ilya Sutskever. At OpenAI, he has overseen the development of resilient AI research infrastructure, supporting efficient experimentation and deployment of AI models.

As president, Brockman leads OpenAI's Scaling organization, which focuses on expanding the technical infrastructure required to support the organization's growth and the increasing capabilities of its models. He has played a key role in shaping OpenAI's mission and in the development and deployment of technologies such as "ChatGPT," "DALL-E," and "Codex." His technical contributions include collaborative research on OpenAI Five's large-scale reinforcement learning, early Codex research, and Whisper speech recognition. Brockman also demonstrated GPT-4 in a live video presentation.

Brockman is a frequent speaker on topics related to artificial intelligence, responsible AI deployment, and the infrastructure behind next-generation intelligent tools. In a TED talk, he discussed the design principles of "ChatGPT" and demonstrated plug-ins for the chatbot. Brockman has addressed concerns about artificial general intelligence and advocates for broad public participation in establishing AI guardrails. He has described a future in which AI transitions from assisting with tasks to managing workflows and believes AI can enable single-person companies to achieve significant scale. Brockman continues to focus on the safe development of artificial general intelligence and its potential benefits for society.
