Asya Branch is an American beauty pageant titleholder, model, activist, and public speaker recognized for her historic achievements in the pageant industry. Branch became the first Black woman to be crowned Miss Mississippi USA and subsequently won Miss USA, marking the first victory for a contestant from Mississippi at the national competition held at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. She later represented the United States at Miss Universe at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Florida, where she placed in the top 21 among 74 competitors.
Branch's journey to the national stage was shaped by years of pageant experience and academic accomplishment. She earned the title of Miss Mississippi and competed in Miss America. At age 17, Branch attended Harvard University for a summer school program, an experience that influenced her personal and professional development. She graduated from the School of Journalism and New Media with a degree in integrated marketing communications, emphasizing public relations, and a minor in general business. She was also named Ole Miss's Most Beautiful, representing the university in various capacities.
Central to Branch's public platform is her commitment to criminal justice reform. Inspired by personal experiences, including her father's incarceration when she was 10, Branch has advocated for children of incarcerated parents. She launched the initiative "Finding Your Way: Empowering Children of Incarcerated Parents," which includes the "Love Letters" program to foster communication between incarcerated parents and their children. Branch has also spoken out against mandatory sentencing, highlighting its role in mass incarceration.
Branch has engaged directly with policymakers, participating in a roundtable with President Trump and lawmakers to discuss the First Step Act. As Miss Mississippi, she worked to raise awareness about Mississippi's incarcerated population and the needs of approximately 30,000 affected minors. Branch has addressed issues such as criminal justice reform and gun safety, sharing her experiences growing up as the child of an incarcerated parent and the associated financial, mental, and emotional challenges.
After her tenure as Miss USA, Branch expanded her influence across multiple fields. She launched The Winning Image Consulting, a pageant coaching service specializing in interview preparation, stage presence, confidence building, and fitness training for competitors. Branch has also pursued a career in country music, drawing on her lifelong passion for singing. As a model, activist, and public speaker, Branch continues to use her platform to address social issues and promote positive change in the community.
