Andy Serkis

Andy Serkis is an English actor, director, and producer known for his pioneering work in performance capture technology, which has influenced the evolution of visual effects and digital character creation in the film industry. Serkis began his career in theater, performing in Shakespearean plays and other stage productions before moving into screen acting. His portrayal of Gollum in Peter Jackson's fantasy saga, particularly in "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," utilized motion capture technology to blend digital graphics with live-action performance. This role earned Serkis multiple awards and nominations and contributed to the film's recognition at the Academy Awards.

After his work in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Serkis continued to advance performance capture in major film franchises. His roles include King Kong in the film adaptation, Caesar in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," Captain Haddock in Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin," and Supreme Leader Snoke in "Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens." He has received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Lancaster for his work in CGI and performance capture. Serkis has also appeared in the Disney+ series "Andor" as Kino Loy and portrayed Alfred Pennyworth in "The Batman."
