Alejandro Sanz

Alejandro Sanz, born Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro in Madrid to parents with Andalusian roots, is recognized as a prominent singer-songwriter in Latin music. Sanz began playing guitar at age 7, drawing influence from his family's flamenco background. Known for flamenco-influenced ballads, he has also explored genres such as pop, rock, funk, R&B, and jazz, developing a sound rooted in Spanish tradition with global appeal.

Sanz released his debut album at age 19, but achieved commercial success in Spain with his second release, "Viviendo Deprisa." Subsequent albums, including "Si Tú Me Miras" and "3," performed well, but "Más" marked his international breakthrough. "Más" sold more than 2 million copies in Spain and was certified 22× Platinum, becoming the best-selling album in Spanish history. The success continued with "El Alma al Aire," which sold over 1 million copies in its first week in Spain. At the Latin Grammy Awards, Sanz received four awards: Best Pop Male Vocal Album and Album of the Year for "El Alma al Aire," and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the title track.

Sanz became the first Spanish artist to record an MTV Unplugged album. His collaboration with Shakira on the single "La Tortura" reached number one on several international charts. The album "Paraíso Express" won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album and featured the crossover hit "Looking for Paradise," a duet with Alicia Keys. "#ElDisco" featured melodic pop with contemporary rhythms and earned a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album. Sanz has also released the EP "¿Y Ahora Qué?", featuring collaborations with Manuel Turizo, Grupo Frontera, and Shakira, including the duet "Bésame."

Throughout his career, Sanz has won 24 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards, and has received the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year three times. He holds a Guinness World Record for the most wins in the Song of the Year category at the Latin Grammys, with four honors. Sanz has been recognized as the Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year, received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, and has lectured on Hispanic culture at institutions such as Harvard University. He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards presented Sanz with the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award, highlighting his impact on global music. Additional honors include the Spanish Ministry for Culture's Gold Merit Medal for Fine Arts, the White House Visión Award, and the ASCAP Award for contributions to Latin music. Sanz has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and his songwriting and artistry continue to influence audiences across generations and borders.
