Recognized for her provocative, progressive and insightful observations, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, an economist, author and commentator, is the President and CEO of the multimedia production company, Last Word Productions, Inc. Dr. Cornel West describes her as "the most iconoclastic public intellectual in the country." Her observations on issues such as race, culture, gender, and their economic impacts, are helping to shape public views in 21st century America. In her scholarly efforts she has dedicated herself to helping African-Americans overcome the constraints and limitations that still exist, long after the Civil Rights movement.

 

As a writer and syndicated columnist, Dr. Malveaux's work appears regularly in USA Today, Black Issues in Higher Education, Ms. magazine, Essence, and the Progressive. Her writings focus not only on the economy, but also on issues of affirmative action, social status and class, women's rights and the American educational systems. Her weekly columns appear in numerous newspapers across the country including the Los Angeles Times, the Charlotte Observer, the New Orleans Tribune, the Detroit Free Press, and the San Francisco Examiner.

 

Well-known for appearances on national network programs, Dr. Malveaux is a charismatic and popular guest on a variety of shows. She is frequently seen on CNN, BET as well as on Howard University's Television show, Evening Exchange. She has appeared on PBS's To The Contrary, ABC's Politically Incorrect, Fox News Channel's O'Reilly Factor and stations such as C-SPAN, MSNBC and CNBC. Dr. Malveaux's Last Word Productions company, has produced television programming for PBS as well as several local and national shows.

 

In addition to her columns and media appearances, Dr. Malveaux is an accomplished author and editor. Her academic work is included in numerous papers, studies, and publications. Most recently she co-authored Unfinished Business: A Democrat and a Republican Take On the 10 most Important Issues Women Face. She is also the editor of Voices of Vision: African American Women on the Issues, the co-editor of Slipping Through the Cracks: The Status of Black Women, and recently co-edited The Paradox of Loyalty: An African American Response to the War on Terrorism.

 

A committed activist and civic leader, Dr. Malveaux serves on the boards of numerous institutes and committees such as the Economic Policy Institute and The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy. She received her BA and MA degrees in economics from Boston College, and earned a Ph.D. in economics from MIT.

 

Whether addressing economic issues, or talking about how to overcome social injustices, Malveaux knows how to capture an audience's attention. She is moving speaker whose life experiences have created a unique perspective that will leave everyone reevaluating the way they view the world.
