Ray Romano, 59th Primetime Emmy Awards (2007), Uncensored ...
One of television's most well-known comedians, Ray Romano is best known for his role on the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond" and his big screen debut as the voice of Manny the woolly mammoth, in the 20th Century Fox smash hit "Ice Age." He also starred on the TNT comedy-drama "Men of a Certain Age" from 2009 to 2011 and on the series "Parenthood" from 2011-2015. He currently stars on HBO's "Vinyl," a series about a New York music executive in the 1970s who hustles to make a career out of the city's diverse music scene.
Ray Romano admits that he always knew he could make his friends laugh, but he never really gave stand-up comedy any serious thought until one fateful open-mic night at a New York comedy club in 1984. He did well, the bug bit hard, and Romano was smitten. After stints at odd jobs, including futon mattress delivery boy and bank teller by day, and comedian by night, he decided to pursue comedy full-time.
He honed his craft at comedy clubs throughout the country, leading to appearances on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" and then with Jay Leno. After appearing on "Late Night with David Letterman," David Letterman offered him a development deal with his production company, Worldwide Pants. Through that association, the CBS hit, "Everybody Loves Raymond" was born.
Romano received widespread recognition for his work, including an Emmy win for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Series, the People's Choice Award for Favorite Male TV Performer, a TV Guide Award for Actor of the Year in a Comedy Series, the Funniest Male Lead in a TV Series at the 14th Annual American Comedy Awards and the Television Critics Association Award For Outstanding Individual Achievement in Comedy.
Ray is also the author of the New York Times best-selling book based on his comedy, "Everything And A Kite." He has also written a children's book along with his brothers, Richard and Robert, entitled, "Raymie, Dickie, and the Bean: Why I Love and Hate My Brothers."
Consistently rated as one of America's top comedians, Romano has performed before presidents, and has headlined at Carnegie Hall. He's hosted "Saturday Night Live," and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity. Not bad for a former futon delivery boy!
