'90s Alternative Rock Band
Letters To Cleo Biography
Letters to Cleo is an alternative rock band best known for their catchy hooks, spirited energy, and strong presence in the 1990s music scene. Formed in Boston in 1990, the band is fronted by charismatic lead singer Kay Hanley, whose distinctive voice became a hallmark of their sound. They gained national attention with their 1994 debut album Aurora Gory Alice, featuring the breakout single “Here & Now,” which received heavy airplay on MTV and was featured on the hit TV show "Melrose Place" soundtrack.
Blending elements of power pop, punk, and indie rock, Letters to Cleo built a loyal fanbase with their dynamic live shows and emotionally resonant lyrics. The band went on to release several albums throughout the ’90s, including Wholesale Meats and Fish and Go!, before disbanding in 2000. They reunited in 2008 for a series of shows and later released new material, including the 2016 EP Back to Nebraska. Known for their appearances in pop culture—most notably on the "10 Things I Hate About You" movie soundtrack—Letters to Cleo remains a beloved band with enduring influence on the alternative and pop-rock landscape.
