James Kynge Biography
James Kynge is a journalist, author, and researcher with extensive experience in Asia, specializing in China’s economic and technological development. Kynge studied Chinese and Japanese at Edinburgh University and spent more than 20 years living in Asia. He began his journalism career at Reuters, serving as Taiwan and Central Asia bureau chief, before joining Financial Times as China bureau chief. Over his career, Kynge has held positions including associate editor, global China editor, emerging markets editor, and Beijing bureau chief at Financial Times. His reporting has included postings in Tokyo, Beijing, Taipei, Hong Kong, Almaty, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
Kynge’s investigative journalism has focused on China’s overseas investment strategies, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the integration of Chinese and global financial markets. He has also led the Pearson Group of companies in China, providing business leadership in the region.
