REQUEST BOOKING INFORMATION

Aric Almirola Biography

Aric Almirola is a three-time NASCAR Cup Series winner who led his team to five playoff appearances and is the first NASCAR national series driver and winner of Cuban descent. A Tampa, Florida, native, Almirola’s racing career began in go-karts at age 8. After winning many races and local titles in and around his home state, he took his talent to the national karting scene in 1998. Almirola’s big break came in the fall of 2003. In conjunction with the late Reggie White, a Hall of Fame defensive end who played in the NFL, the Gibbs organization formed a diversity program to create a grassroots stock car team that would identify and assist minorities with the desire and talent to pursue a career in motorsports. Almirola was selected to join the program after placing first in a driver combine at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

As a top NASCAR Cup Series driver, leadership is the key quality in building a successful team in an extremely fast-paced environment. To be successful on the track, a driver must lead his team off the track in order to build the fastest cars, make the right calls, and build the relationships with corporate sponsors.

What makes his career so unique is his attention to detail, both physically and mentally, inside and outside of the car. Almirola trains his body and mind for peak performance - finding every edge he can get on the competition. From contrast therapy, to 100-mile bike rides, to earning more efficient sleep, he wants to know how every aspect of training and recovery can improve his performance. NASCAR hosts the longest season in sports spanning from February to November with only one off-weekend and 40 race weekends, so there is not time to sit stagnant. The following racer weekend is only 5 days away from the moment he arrives home.

Almirola takes the people-first approach and has spoken on team building and leadership to Fortune 500 companies including Mobil 1, Ford Motor Company, Smithfield Foods, Roche, and countless others.

In addition to being a leader in his profession, Almirola brings his leadership style full circle by balancing his most important job - being a husband to two children, a Dad, a Christian, a friend, and a philanthropist.

Organizations have left with unique knowledge on how they can also structure their teams like a top-performing NASCAR Cup Series team, improving their own physical and mental health, and balancing their work with their lives at home - all while finding fulfillment and gratitude through the ups and downs.

Speaking Topics
  • The "Wow" to the "How" - Leadership Development

In NASCAR a thousandth of a second matters, speeds reach 200 MPH, every corner could be life altering, trust is in a one person in my ears, and everything has to be perfect for 400 laps. How does a successful NASCAR team translate to a team in your organization?

    • The Driver: The QB or the one making the plays.
    • The Crew Chief: The head coach or the one making the calls.
    • The team: Made of engineers, specialists, analytics.
    • The Pit Crew: Top Athletes with no margin of error in a 9 second pit stop.
    • The Spotter: The drivers eyes telling him which moves to make (trust).

At the end of a race, it is ultimately in the drivers hands to find the success on the track, but it is the days, weeks, and months of execution, communication, trust, positivity and leadership from each individual that give the driver the best opportunity to take home the checkered flag.

We take teams through each step from the "Wow" of what it takes to win, to the "how" breaking down each specific role and applying it to that organization.

I feel NASCAR is the best depiction of teams in corporations and organizations because our season spans from February to November, with 40 races and only one off weekend, so we face the same issues as organizations who are open 12 months of the year.

  • Overcoming Adversity

In 2017, I was involved in an accident on the track that led to a broken back. Doctors said I was close to being paralyzed from the waste down. After vigorous training and physical therapy, I made my way back in the car in just three months. Since then, I led my team to four playoff appearances with a best finish of fifth out of 40 drivers.

The key difference after the accident was my attention to physical and mental health. I pay attention to everything I put in my body, my recovery, and my mental fatigue going into each race weekend.

In this keynote, we talk about facing fears, the unknowns, gratitude, and never giving up.

  • Finding Balance

In 2022, I came to a realization that no amount of trophy's on the wall could satisfy me or make me happy. I could make all the money in the world and win all the races in a season, but it would still not fulfill me. What was most important to me was to be the best Father, best husband, and best Christian I can be.

I announced publicly to the 10s of millions of race fans that I would retire at the end of the year. Not knowing what was next, not knowing where my income will come from, but I knew I would spend more quality time with my family and put it all on God's hands.

Fast forward 7 months, and the unthinkable happens. The race team, and the CEO of my major sponsor Smithfield Foods called and asked if I would reconsider my retirement as long as I could spend as much time with my family as possible. An unheard of ask in our sport.

After speaking to my family, we decided to go back another year. This time without the pressure and planning out our loves to revolve around the kids and family, instead of my career.

In this Keynote, we dive deep into trusting in the Lord's purpose for us. Not worrying about the days ahead and living in the present moment with the people who matter the most.
