Asad Syrkett (ser-ket) is a design editor, writer, and brand strategist in Brooklyn, New York, and the Editor-in-Chief of ELLE Decor. Recently, Syrkett ran New York operations for Hem, an international furniture brand and design studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. Syrkett oversaw Hem’s key East Coast clients, from corporate VPs to the creative minds behind some of New York City’s best architecture firms.

Previously, Syrkett was Deputy Editor at the design and cities website Curbed. There, Syrkett managed the site's senior reporting and editing staff and directed special projects (including weekly original home tours, bi-annual shopping guides, and Curbed’s travel vertical). Before that, Syrkett was on the editorial staff at Architectural Digest and The Architectural Record. Syrkett got my start in magazines with internships at Interview and Art in America.

Beyond the written word, Syrkett has guest-lectured for a Harvard Graduate School of Design seminar on professional practice in design, moderated an official SXSW roundtable, and co-hosted two seasons of a weekly podcast (you can listen to all 20 episodes of The Curbed Appeal on iTunes). In 2017, Syrkett was a Folio: magazine 30 Under 30 honoree.
