Carol Tome Biography
Carol Tomé is the Chief Executive Officer of the United States Parcel Service (UPS). She has served in this role since June 2020.
From 1995 to 2019, Tomé served as the Chief Finance Officer for Home Depot. There she ran the real estate and strategic business-development units. She provided leadership in the areas of real estate, store construction, financial services, strategic business development and growth initiatives. Her corporate finance duties included financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, financial operations, divisional finance, internal audit, investor relations, treasury and tax.
Prior to working for Home Depot, she was vice president and treasurer of Riverwood International Corporation. Tomé began her career as a commercial lender with United Bank of Denver (now Wells Fargo) and then spent several years as director of banking for the Johns-Manville Corporation.
Tomé serves as a trustee or board member for a number of organizations including Grady Hospital, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Sovos Brands, Catalyst, and GIA Partners. She is also a member of The Committee of 200, The Buckhead Coalition, The Business Roundtable and The Business Council.
In 2012, The Wall Street Journal ranked Tomé No. 2 on its list of the best chief financial officers in corporate America and Fortune magazine listed her among the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. In 2013, Carol was named a laureate and a member of the Junior Achievement of Georgia Business Hall of Fame. In 2011, she received a distinguished alumna award from the University of Wyoming. Carol was recognized with the 2009 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans award by BDN Network and the 2009 CFO of the Year award by the CFO Roundtable. She ranked No. 16 in Forbes magazine’s 2008 list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women and was included by The Wall Street Journal on its list of 50 Women to Watch in 2007.
Tomé holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Denver.
