Peabody-Winning Senior Political Correspondent & Co-Anchor on "Good Morning America Weekend"
Rachel Scott Biography
Rachel Scott is the senior political correspondent for ABC News, covering national politics, the White House, and Capitol Hill across all programs and platforms, including "Good Morning America," "World News Tonight with David Muir," "Nightline," "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," "20/20," ABC News Live, ABC News Digital, and ABC Audio. Scott, a Southern California native, graduated from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. She began her career at ABC News as a production associate for ABC News Live and later worked as a producer for "GMA" Digital while also serving as a weekend general assignment reporter for WTNH-TV, ABC News' New Haven, Connecticut, affiliate.
Scott advanced to roles as White House correspondent and D.C. correspondent before becoming senior political correspondent. She also serves as the network's lead campaign correspondent, reporting on the Republican primary and the presidential campaign of Donald Trump. Scott has covered significant moments in American politics, including reporting live from Butler, Pennsylvania, after the attempted assassination of Trump, anchoring live coverage of President Biden exiting the reelection race, and being among the few reporters inside the federal courtroom for Trump's felony trial. She has conducted exclusive interviews with political leaders such as Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and Mike Pence.
Scott became a congressional correspondent covering Capitol Hill and reported on the January 6 United States Capitol attack during her first week in the role. She led coverage of Trump's second impeachment trial and reported on major stories such as the extended House speaker battle, Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson, bipartisan infrastructure negotiations, and the passage of significant gun safety legislation. Scott also questioned Russian President Vladimir Putin about his crackdown on political opponents, a moment that drew attention from the international journalism community. In 2026, she was appointed as the new permanent co-anchor for the Saturday editions of "Good Morning America Weekend."
Her reporting on the impacts of the Roe v. Wade decision was recognized by the Peabody Awards program for "Nightline: The Appointment" and as a finalist for "IMPACT x Nightline: On the Brink" with anchor Diane Sawyer, with the latter also earning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Health and Medical Coverage. Scott provided extensive coverage of nationwide protests over police brutality and the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on communities of color. Her work appeared in the ABC News primetime special "Juneteenth: A Celebration of Overcoming" and in coverage of the private service for George Floyd.
Scott's journalism has been recognized with several honors, including an Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award, a Peabody, multiple Emmy and Edward R. Murrow Awards, and the inaugural Emmy Award for the Emerging Journalist category. She has also been named Washingtonian's Outstanding Journalist in Broadcast Television, NABJ Emerging Journalist of the Year, and was listed on Forbes' "30 Under 30" list. Additional honors include the RTCA Joan Shorenstein Barone Award for congressional coverage and the WABJ Young Journalist of Excellence Award. Scott is known for breaking news, holding public officials accountable, and reporting on complex political stories in American broadcast journalism.
