Technology & Climate Innovation Journalist; Host of "Marketplace Tech" & "How We Survive"; Venture Partner at Amasia
Molly Wood Biography
Molly Wood is a technology and business journalist and climate tech investor with a career spanning more than two decades in media and innovation. Wood began her journalism career at the Associated Press before moving into technology reporting at outlets including CNET and CBS, where she served as a writer and broadcaster, and later at The New York Times. At CNET and CBS, she co-hosted the "Buzz Out Loud" podcast, one of the first commercially successful podcasts. She also authored the "Molly Rants" column at CNET News, for which she was a National Magazine Award finalist for commentary.
Wood joined The New York Times as a deputy technology editor and later became a tech correspondent and backup host for the public radio program Marketplace and its spinoffs. She eventually became host and senior editor of "Marketplace Tech," a daily program examining the intersection of technology and the economy. Her reporting has been recognized by the Webby Awards, the National Magazine Awards, and the Gracie Awards. During her time at Marketplace, Wood began covering climate technology with a business-focused approach, addressing the climate crisis as an engineering and economic challenge.
As host of "How We Survive," Wood explores the economics, technology, and human stories behind climate adaptation, with a focus on batteries, lithium mining, and the lithium supply chain in the United States. The podcast examines how technology solutions impact the climate crisis. This work led Wood to pursue direct investment in climate solutions.
Transitioning to venture capital, Wood founded Molly Wood Media, an independent journalism and investing firm focused on climate solutions. She served as managing director at LAUNCH, an early-stage venture capital firm, and is a venture partner at Amasia, where she scouts and advises climate tech startups. Her investments include Clarity Movement, which develops real-time air pollution monitoring; Spring Eats, a waste-free grocery delivery service using electric vehicles; and SailPlan, a platform reducing shipping emissions through optimized routing.
Wood hosts the podcast "Everybody in the Pool," featuring interviews with climate innovators, investors, and business leaders focused on scalable climate solutions. She also hosts Microsoft's "WorkLab" podcast, exploring how workplaces are navigating AI transformation and sharing insights on skills training and technology adoption. Across platforms, Wood applies journalistic rigor and a solutions-oriented approach to technology, business, and climate innovation.
