 White Lies Biography

White Lies are an English alternative rock band from Ealing, London. Formerly known as Fear of Flying, the band consists primarily of Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). The band performs live as a five-piece, complemented by sidemen Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee.

White Lies' first release was a short extended play titled "Unfinished Business". This release contained only two tracks, and as it was limited to only 500 copies, it did not chart in the United Kingdom.

"Death" was released as a single in 2008. This single reached number 54 in the United Kingdom. The band's second single, "To Lose My Life" was released in January 2009, and was their first single to break the top forty of the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 34.

“To Lose My Life...,” the band's debut album, was released one week later. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart. It was the first debut album by a British band to do so in 2009. The album also charted in Ireland and the Netherlands, reaching peaks of 22 and 31 respectively. A third single from the album, "Farewell to the Fairground", was released on 23 March 2009. The release marked the band's most successful single to date, reaching number 33 in the UK and spending 8 weeks on the chart.

“Ritual” their second studio album, was released on 17 January 2011, through Fiction Records. The album was produced by Alan Moulder and Max Dingel, at the Assault & Battery Studios in London. The album's lead single, "Bigger Than Us", was released on 3 January 2011 in the United Kingdom, where it debuted at number 42. A “Ritual” short film was released, containing three songs from the album: "Bad Love", "Holy Ghost" and "Bigger Than Us."
