Rory Scovel Biography
Rory Scovel is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer known for his improvisational skills and unpredictable stage presence in the comedy industry. After reaching the finals of the Seattle International Comedy Competition, Scovel performed his first late-night set on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." He later appeared on "Conan" with comedian Jon Dore, presenting a unique premise where both comedians performed together, and continued to make multiple appearances on the show over the following years. Scovel was recognized among the 10 Comics to Watch by Variety Magazine, and his stand-up was featured on Comedy Central's "The Half Hour."
Scovel's stand-up catalog includes the album "Dilation" and the specials "The Charleston Special," "Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up for the First Time," "Live Without Fear," and "Religion, Sex, and a Few Things in Between." His second album, "Rory Scovel Live at Third Man Records," was recorded at Jack White's recording headquarters in Nashville. White later executive produced one of Scovel's Netflix specials. Scovel's comedy special "Rory Scovel: Religion, Sex, and a Few Things in Between" was released on Max. He has performed at major comedy festivals, including Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, FYF Fest in Los Angeles, Vancouver Comedy Festival, Del Close Improv Marathon in New York, Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, and Chicago Improv Festival.
As an actor, Scovel has appeared in both television and film. He was part of the main cast on the sitcoms "Ground Floor" and "Those Who Can't," co-starred in the romantic comedy film "I Feel Pretty," and contributed as a writer and performer on "The Eric Andre Show." Scovel was part of the writing staff for the second and fourth seasons of "The Eric Andre Show." Comedy Central produced an eight-episode scripted series, "Robbie," which Scovel co-wrote, produced, and starred in; it became Comedy Central's first binge-release series.
Scovel starred in the Apple TV+ series "Physical" opposite Rose Byrne, which ran for three seasons, and appeared in Paramount's "Babylon," directed by Damien Chazelle, earning the cast a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Additional acting credits include "I Feel Pretty" with Amy Schumer, Netflix's "Old Dads" with Bill Burr, Bobby Cannavale, and Bokeem Woodbine, and "The House" with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. Scovel is also set to appear alongside Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell in the Amazon romantic comedy "You're Cordially Invited."
Since 2018, Scovel has co-hosted "The Pen Pals Podcast" with comedian Daniel Van Kirk. Scovel is recognized for his versatility across stand-up, television, film, and podcasting, contributing to the ongoing evolution of comedy and entertainment.
