Pete Holmes: "Comedy Sex God" | Talks at Google
Pete Holmes is a stand-up comedian, podcast host, cartoonist, and voice-over artist. He is best known for his late night talk show on TBS, The Pete Holmes Show (2013-2014), and HBO's Crashing (2017-2019).
Holmes was born and raised in Massachusetts. He began performing comedy during his senior year of college in 2001 and was part of the improv comedy troupe, The Sweaty-Toothed Madmen.
In 2010 Pete landed his first on-air stand-up special with a half-hour on Comedy Central Presents. Since then, Holmes has released four more comedy specials: Impregnated with Wonder (2011), Nice Try, The Devil (2013), Faces and Sounds (2016), and Dirty Clean (2018).
Pete created, wrote, and executive produced the HBO series Crashing, which was picked up in 2017 after Judd Apatow signed on as the series's director. This show was semi-autobiographical, revolving around a fictional version of Holmes, a comedian who pursues a career in stand-up comedy after his wife cheats on him, leaving him homeless. Crashing ran for three seasons and is full of many guest appearances from high-profile comedians.
Holmes is also known for his off-the-wall energy, his love of the absurd and his infectious enthusiasm. This can be seen in his podcast, You Made it Weird, in which Holmes has interviewed his comedian and entertainer friends since 2011.
Pete has also written for NBC's Outsourced and FOX's I Hate My Teenage Daughter, and draws cartoons for The New Yorker
