Alfred Molina Biography

Alfred Molina is a British Actor known for his film and television work, particularly his portrayal of Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, his performance as Diego Rivera in Frida, and his portrayal of director Robert Aldrich in the television series Feud.

Molina made his film debut in 1981 with a minor role as the guide Satipo in the iconic opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. His big break came in 1985 with Letter to Brezhnev, followed two years later by a starring role in Prick Up Your Ears. In the early 1990s, Molina was a ubiquitous presence on British television, with his highest profile role being the lead in the first two seasons of El I.C.D. He has worked with Paul Thomas Anderson twice, in Boogie Nights and Magnolia. Molina gained wide recognition for his portrayal of Diego Rivera alongside Salma Hayek in the biopic Frida, a role for which he won BAFTA and SAG awards.

Molina gained further commercial recognition for his performance as Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2, which became one of the highest-grossing films of that year. His stage-work has included roles in two major Royal National Theatre productions: Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana and David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow. For his role as director Robert Aldrich in the television series Feud--about the making of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and the conflict between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis-- he was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.
