Don Cheadle Biography

Don Cheadle's career in the film and television industry spans over three decades, with notable roles in films such as "Hamburger Hill" (1987), "Colors" (1988), "Devil in a Blue Dress" (1995), "Rosewood" (1997), "Boogie Nights" (1997), "Bulworth" (1998), "Out of Sight" (1998), "Traffic" (2000), "Hotel Rwanda" (2004) for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, and "No Sudden Move" (2021). He is also recognized for his role as James "Rhodey" Rhodes / War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with "Iron Man 2" (2010). His television work has earned him Primetime Emmy nominations for roles in "House of Lies" (2012–2016) and "Black Monday" (2019–2021), among others.

Cheadle's work extends beyond acting to include producing and directing. He co-produced "Crash," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2005, and directed and starred in the biographical film "Miles Ahead" about jazz musician Miles Davis. He is also a recognized voice actor, having narrated the audiobook "Carry On: Reflections for a New Generation from John Lewis," which earned him a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album in 2022. As a producer, he earned a Tony Award for Best Musical for the musical "A Strange Loop."

Off the screen, Cheadle is recognized for his humanitarian work. He co-authored the book "Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond" and co-founded the Not on Our Watch Project, earning him the BET Humanitarian award in 2007. His activism also extends to climate change as he co-created the documentary event series "Years of Living Dangerously," is on the advisory board of Citizens' Climate Lobby, and was named U.N. Environment Program Goodwill Ambassador in 2010. He is also an executive producer on the documentary series "Vs. Goliath," which aims to amplify stories of communities fighting against the fossil fuel industry. Cheadle's diverse achievements across acting, producing, directing, and humanitarian work have earned him multiple accolades, including two Grammy Awards, a Tony Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and nominations for an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards, and 11 Primetime Emmy Awards.
