Miller graduated with honors from Amherst College with a degree in music and began his post-college career playing piano and drums in New York City bars. He later shifted to comedy, performing at clubs such as Catch A Rising Star and The Comic Strip. Within two years, Miller was headlining at clubs across the country, building a reputation for his sarcastic comedic style and versatility as an actor in roles ranging from wrongly convicted felons to makeover artists.
