Brian Billick Biography

Brian Billick served as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 1999 to 2007, which at the time was a new franchise with the youngest players in NFL history. In his first year as head coach, Billick guided the Ravens to their first non-losing season (8-8) in 1999. He then led the team to a decisive 34-7 Super Bowl XXXV victory over the New York Giants in 2001, marking the Ravens' first Super Bowl victory. The Ravens returned to the NFL playoffs in 2001 and 2003 under Billick's leadership. In 2006, the team produced its best regular season in team history, winning the tough AFC North with a 13-3 record. Billick's career regular-season record stands at 80-64, with a postseason record of 5-3. He was later inducted into the Baltimore Ravens Ring of Honor in 2019.

Before coaching the Ravens, Billick coached professional and collegiate teams, including the Redlands (1977), Brigham Young (1978), San Diego State (1981-1985), Utah State (1986-1988), Stanford (1989-1991), and the Minnesota Vikings (1992-1998). As the offensive coordinator for the Vikings from 1994 to 1998, Billick managed an offense that scored the most points in NFL history (556).

Billick earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors and honorable mention All-America in 1976 as a tight end at Brigham Young University (BYU). In 1976, he caught 20 passes for 338 yards and a touchdown. Billick played linebacker for the Air Force Academy during his freshman year before transferring to BYU.

Billick has participated enthusiastically in community work since his arrival in Baltimore, including working with the United Way of Central Maryland (the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society), hosting golf tournaments for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and serving as the honorary chairman of the American Lung Association’s Breath of Life Celebration. He also serves on the board of directors of the Living Classrooms Foundation. The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maryland Chapter selected Billick as its 2001 “Champion of the Year.”

Following his coaching career, Billick transitioned to broadcasting, serving as a game day analyst for the NFL on Fox and contributing to the NFL Network. His broadcasting career included appearances on NFL Network's "The Coaches Show" and "NFL Total Access." Billick left Fox after the 2013 season but continues to maintain a major presence on Foxsports.com and NFL.com. As of 2022, he serves as an advisor to the head coach and offensive analyst at Arizona State University, also coaching the Team Kai squad in the 2022 and 2023 Hula Bowl, and securing victories in both games.

Additionally, Billick has co-authored three books: "Competitive Leadership: Twelve Principles for Success," "Finding the Winning Edge" and his latest book, "More Than a Game: the Glorious Present and Uncertain Future of the NFL."
