Mohamed Moussa

Mohamed Moussa is the co-founder and chief technology officer of Tarteel, an AI-powered platform designed to help Muslims worldwide recite, memorize, and engage with the Quran. Moussa's journey to founding Tarteel began after earning a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo and building his early career at major technology companies, including Coursera and Facebook. His experience in software engineering and educational technology informed his approach to developing tools for faith-based learning. Motivated by concerns about anti-Muslim bias in the technology sector, Moussa shifted his focus to creating technology that serves Muslim communities globally.

Alongside co-founders Abdellatif Abdelfattah and Anas Abou Allaban, Moussa launched Tarteel to make Quranic learning accessible to the world's 1.8 billion Muslims, many of whom are not native Arabic speakers. The platform utilizes advanced Arabic speech recognition and machine learning to provide real-time, word-level feedback on pronunciation and memorization. The Tarteel team developed the first open-source dataset of Quranic recitations by crowdsourcing data from users across multiple countries. Tarteel has become a leading AI Quran companion, serving more than 15 million users and achieving a top-10 ranking in app stores throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council region.

Moussa's work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and faith has been recognized by TIME Magazine, which included him in the TIME100 AI list of influential figures in artificial intelligence. He has spoken at Muslim Tech Fest about the impact of purpose-driven technology on global communities. Moussa remains active in the Islamic open-source software community, advocating for the use of AI to support spiritual engagement and educational access within Muslim communities.
